Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Posted in Fountain Square, Local Music on November 7th, 2008 by Ryan

The good folks at Radio Radio and IMC present Shindig and Same As Sunday this evening.  Bloomington-based (but Indy-loved) Gentleman Caller celebrate the release of their new CD “Gentleman Caller Vs. The Elephant” with a Saturday evening show.

Sam’s Saloon has STATE, Avero, The Last Good Year, and Chemcoma take the stage tonight, while bassist extraordinaire Will Woodrow, Chained Fate, and Vertigo play Saturday.

Big Car Gallery previews the Tonic Gallery this evening - not sure if there’s music tonight, but it’s linked to the larger Tonic Ball event that takes place on the 21st.

Deano’s Vino has Andy DeCarlo & The Travelin’ Hillbillies tonight and Luke Austin Daugherty & Ann McWilliams Saturday.

I’m going into hermit mode this weekend - lotta pages to finish before Monday’s deadline.  If you see me out this at any time, order me back home post-haste.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday night found us playing for theater folk in a re-purposed church, opening for a female impersonator/magician.  Saturday afternoon tossed a line of 8 or so kids in front of us (until they were distracted by the cornhole tourney going on) at a Fountain Square block party.  Saturday night placed us in Lafayette’s Knickerbocker Saloon, where the opening acoustic act bonded over Helicopter Helicopter (he’d played a gig for the band and had added their entire catalog to his act - I didn’t get the chance to test his knowledge, but I believe him).

Random enough, I suppose.  The shows themselves went fine, even with the hastily added extra material we tossed in the set list.  We’ve got another show coming up December 7th at the Melody Inn, complete with our newest members, dancers Betty and Veronica.

Until then, I’ve got the new Google book at the upcoming ACT production to keep me busy.  Joy!

Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Is tomorrow the first Saturday of the month?  Then Bigger Than Elvis must be at Radio Radio!

Mudkid, Birdman of Alcatraz, and DJ Rusty Redenbacher (that’s all one guy) host the Sam’s Saloon Halloween Party this evening - it’s a perfect setting for the holiday.  Tomorrow, the venue features Undefeated Music (I’m not sure what weight class they’re in, though).

As for the rest of Fountain Square, it’s Halloween, so watch out for trick-or-treating kids, cider and candy at Scare On The Square.  This is one of the best times to see my fair district, so stop on by between 4 and 6 this afternoon.

My costume?  I’m going as a Playboy Psychonaut - 7:30 this evening at the new IndyFringe HQ!

Must Be The Fezzes . . .

Bands, take note: want some gigs during the Halloween season?  Wear silly hats.  The Playboy Psychonauts are doing three gigs in a two-day span:

Silly hats = gigs.  Works every time.

A Quick Summary of Music and Podcasts

Posted in Fountain Square, Local Music, Podcasts on October 22nd, 2008 by Ryan

Radio Radio has Pete Francis (Dispatch) Friday night and Hillbilly Casino Saturday.  The former is jammy, the latter is rockabilly.

Sam’s Saloon features Holding Mercury and Deep Cricket Night (both from Chicago) Friday night and DJ HaBlack O’Bama (from Other People’s Money) Saturday.

Deano’s Vino hosts New Augusta Friday night and the John Harden Project on Saturday.  Also, it’s Swing Night at the Fountain Square Theater.

The new IMN podcast can be downloaded here or heard at the site or at WFYI HD2 Thursdays at 4pm.

I’ll be in New Orleans for a long weekend for the Voodoo Music Festival, and I’ll most likely be blogging or Twittering from there.  Keep the place together while I’m gone.
