Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Posted in Fountain Square, Local Music on October 31st, 2008 by Ryan

Is tomorrow the first Saturday of the month?  Then Bigger Than Elvis must be at Radio Radio!

Mudkid, Birdman of Alcatraz, and DJ Rusty Redenbacher (that’s all one guy) host the Sam’s Saloon Halloween Party this evening - it’s a perfect setting for the holiday.  Tomorrow, the venue features Undefeated Music (I’m not sure what weight class they’re in, though).

As for the rest of Fountain Square, it’s Halloween, so watch out for trick-or-treating kids, cider and candy at Scare On The Square.  This is one of the best times to see my fair district, so stop on by between 4 and 6 this afternoon.

My costume?  I’m going as a Playboy Psychonaut - 7:30 this evening at the new IndyFringe HQ!

Must Be The Fezzes . . .

Bands, take note: want some gigs during the Halloween season?  Wear silly hats.  The Playboy Psychonauts are doing three gigs in a two-day span:

Silly hats = gigs.  Works every time.

A Quick Summary of Music and Podcasts

Posted in Fountain Square, Local Music, Podcasts on October 22nd, 2008 by Ryan

Radio Radio has Pete Francis (Dispatch) Friday night and Hillbilly Casino Saturday.  The former is jammy, the latter is rockabilly.

Sam’s Saloon features Holding Mercury and Deep Cricket Night (both from Chicago) Friday night and DJ HaBlack O’Bama (from Other People’s Money) Saturday.

Deano’s Vino hosts New Augusta Friday night and the John Harden Project on Saturday.  Also, it’s Swing Night at the Fountain Square Theater.

The new IMN podcast can be downloaded here or heard at the site or at WFYI HD2 Thursdays at 4pm.

I’ll be in New Orleans for a long weekend for the Voodoo Music Festival, and I’ll most likely be blogging or Twittering from there.  Keep the place together while I’m gone.

Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Radio Radio welcomes back Melissa Ferrick and opener Coyote Grace tonight. Solo acoustic fans, take note.

Sam’s Saloon features Jason and the Punknecks and Goddamn Gallows tonight and Whitey Morgan and the 78s and TBA Saturday. Fans of the loud and/or the rockabilly, this is where you’ll be ending up.

Deano’s Vino has the Shirtless Biddles tonight. Tomorrow, all they’ll say is “Let us surprize you!” It couldn’t be TBA - they’re playing down the road the same night. Questions abound.

Group these with Maxwell and Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos at the Murat (same show, not the same venue) tonight and TV On The Radio with The Dirtbombs at the Vogue Sunday, and this is quite the full weekend. Choose wisely.

New Podcast Up and Broad Ripple Music Fest

Posted in Local Music, Podcasts on October 16th, 2008 by Ryan

Enjoy the new IMN podcast via download or the various sites that host it.

It’s a little outside of my normal base of operations, but I must make note of the upcoming Broad Ripple Music Fest (taking place next Saturday in and around the general Broad Ripple area). It’s notable for multiple reasons, including the fact that all of these music events are donating some of the evening’s proceeds to various charities. The kickoff show on Friday is a huge event as well, including some of Indianapolis’ most notable music acts. And then there’s my friend and former bandmate Kit Malone coming out of self-imposed retirement for a show at the Boulevard Place Cafe. All wonderful reasons to attend.

IMN will be giving away some wristbands for the show, so check out the site in the next couple of days. It’ll be worth it even if you have to buy, though. Trust me.
