Glow-In-The-Dark Bass Strings
Normally, I hate gimmicks when it comes to the bass.
What's a bass gimmick? Look at Gene Simmons and his bass. Or just look at Gene Simmons. That's a gimmick.
It's something that doesn't enhance playability or the music itself - it just screams "Look at me! For absolutely no good reason whatsoever! Wheeee!"
That's my first reaction to glow-in-the-dark bass strings. That such an idea came from DR Strings surprises me - I put their strings on three of my four instruments, and I know them better for great tone than gimmicks. But they're releasing lines that are different colors or ready for de-tuning, and I guess this fits into that new mindset.
But, I'm getting ready to do a Halloween-type show, and glow-in-the-dark string might just fit in. Unless, of course, the director doesn't want everybody looking at the bassist at all times.
But that's just crazy talk.
Therefore, I propose that glow-in-the-dark strings be sold only during the month of October, like pumpkin coffee flavoring. Only makes sense, doesn't it? It's still a gimmick, but at least it makes sense then.

I expected to fully hate those. But…they’re pretty. At least they aren’t the standard pale greenish, Frankenstein color reserved for most glow-in-the-dark stuff.

Very true – they do look like a good effect rather than a Halloween toy.
I’m thinking a Tron tie-in may work as well.

Why the Misfits and GWAR don’t have endorsements for these is beyond me.

I’d love to rock these for a Halloween show! Are they true glow in the dark or just react to black light?

Nevermind, I would have read the whole text part on the page “100% black light active”, but I was too distracted by the pretty colors

@Chandler – GWAR, certainly. The current incarnation of the Misfits may not be able to afford the postage on the endorsement request.
@Miss Jane – They are pretty, and I considered a portable blacklight for just such a thing. I’m sure it could be rigged up.

The Music is one part.. the MAIN part of the show. What would the show be with the music?
If you know the artist and love there music you’re going to go buy the album no matter what they look like.
I think that’s how David Bowie was able to sell so many albums.. No one had to look at him.
But the show is a completely different character. There is a theatrics to the show. If a jester show up to entertain the King and Queen not dressed in his proper attire, I don’t think they be cool with that. “sorry your highness I for got me outfit.” There is a theatric to it.
If you where to go to a Play, and that play is suppose to be set in the 1930’s, and someone show up in there Nike Air’s.. it’s going to have the right feel? Theatrics‘..
Gene Simmons said “no one want to watch a bunch of guys that just show up in there street close and play music.” and I would agree with.
Yes! This is my opinion. But these are just a couple of common sense fact to back my opinion. If you want to show up in your street close to do that show, Power to you. I not going to tell you you’re an idiot for doing so. The guys with the “gimmick” just may have a little bit of a memorable show..
Set me you with a case of Glow In The Dark Bass Strings!
