Glow-In-The-Dark Bass Strings
Normally, I hate gimmicks when it comes to the bass.
What's a bass gimmick? Look at Gene Simmons and his bass. Or just look at Gene Simmons. That's a gimmick.
It's something that doesn't enhance playability or the music itself - it just screams "Look at me! For absolutely no good reason whatsoever! Wheeee!"
That's my first reaction to glow-in-the-dark bass strings. That such an idea came from DR Strings surprises me - I put their strings on three of my four instruments, and I know them better for great tone than gimmicks. But they're releasing lines that are different colors or ready for de-tuning, and I guess this fits into that new mindset.
But, I'm getting ready to do a Halloween-type show, and glow-in-the-dark string might just fit in. Unless, of course, the director doesn't want everybody looking at the bassist at all times.
But that's just crazy talk.
Therefore, I propose that glow-in-the-dark strings be sold only during the month of October, like pumpkin coffee flavoring. Only makes sense, doesn't it? It's still a gimmick, but at least it makes sense then.
