The New IMN Podcast, and a Rediscovery

The new IMN podcast is up and running - download it or listen at the site or on WFYI HD2 Thursdays at 4pm.

This past weekend involved two Playboy Psychonauts gigs, and I took the opportunity to work the Electro-Harmonix BassBalls pedal back into the lineup. I bought it quite a few years ago and never really found a good place for it, as the Q-Tron I used had more versatility. The sound and distortion fits well in the retro vibe of this band, though, so I'm keeping it in the gig bag. One listener last night called it the audio version of "Satyricon," and I can't think of a better reason to keep using it.

Please, I’m Begging You

If you're playing a club gig, you probably don't need three full stacks of amplifiers (the drummer didn't get one, although I'm sure he wanted one) like a bam I witnessed recently in a small-ish bar. Especially considering there was one more amp stack than audience member. They could have heard you without the stacks, folks. Hell, they probably could have heard your iPod. The whole thing was just unnecessary. Turn it down, wear your earplugs, and save your back from carrying all of those cabinets.

Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Radio Radio has a full weekend on tap, kicking off with the Jascha CD release party. Also playing tonight are Heavy Hometown, Cedarwell, and Christian Taylor and Homeschool. Seawolf, Port O'Brien, and Sara Lov come by Saturday. Capping it all off on Sunday are Slick Idiot and Sarah Vain.

The Vollrath has Exorcism tomorrow tonight, which I believe is some sort of dance night. So have fun with that.

Deano's Vino has acoustic music Friday and Saturday night, and Maria's Pizza has live jazz those very same days. And don't forget the First Friday festivities going on tonight.

Finaly, the Playboy Psychonauts are performing at the Melody Inn Sunday night as part of the Cocoanut Grove lounge night. Come on out and enjoy!

We really have to stop scheduling shows during Steelers games, I think.
