Fountain Square Music This Weekend

At Radio Radio this weekend, the electronic rock act F.U.Z.Z. reunites in their hometown this very evening. Tomorrow, you can catch Hoots and Hellmouth and Annie and the Beekeepers. Actual bees will not be present.

The Vollrath Tavern has Maravich, Bulletwolf and Secrets Between Sailors tonight. Tomorrow, the tavern presents Ill Ease, Lines of Nazca and Lasercrust. While it is being presented as the 48th birthday party of Wick (drummer for LON), records show he is at least 7 years younger than the show indicates.

For the jazz fans, there's Swing Night tonight at the Fountain Square Theater, and you can see a smaller combo Friday and Saturday nights at Maria's Pizza. Toss in acoustic music at Deano's Vino all weekend, and you're pretty much set.

Thanks to all that visited the Upper Room last night for the Playboy Psychonauts show. It was quite entertaining to manage the Steelers game and the setlist at the same time, but I pulled through splendidly, if I do say so myself. Toss in an overtime win, and all is right with the world. Thank you, and good night.

New IMN Podcast Is Up, and the Playboy Psychonauts are Live Tonight!

The new IMN podcast is up - download it, or listen at the site or on WFYI HD2 Thursdays at 4pm.

The Playboy Psychonauts return to the Upper Room in Broad Ripple this evening, too. Two sets, kicking off around 10pm. The late start agrees with me this particular evening, as the Steelers kick off the NFL season earlier and I want to catch as much of the game as possible before the set begins. This means:

  • Earlier than normal arrival
  • Quick setup
  • Perch by flatscreen immediately afterwards
  • Try to stifle (non-music-related) ecstatic screams or anguished cries during playing

Should be an interesting exercise all around. Hope to see you there!

Was Something Happening With The Beatles Today?

Hadn't heard much about it.

Seriously, though, the Rock Band deal is interesting if only for the fact that a video game with downloadable content has made it possible for unsigned bands to get their downloadable songs on the exact same platform as a legendary supergroup using the Rock Band network. Record the song, do a little rhythm programming with Reaper and a program called Magma, and send it off. It's something to note because none of the other download services have yet made this feat possible, and it's not like you can just rip your Beatles CDs into Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

And now that there are even more CDs to rip into your media player of choice, the lack of any Beatles songs on iTunes matters even less, really. You've got the remastered albums for the fans and purists, and you can tempt the kids into listening with the video game without having to repurchase the albums. So everybody wins - except for iTunes. And I'm writing this before the Apple announcement today, so who knows what will happen. I'll be interested in any news on Cocktail or new iPod formats, but it probably won't go much beyond that, from what I'm reading.

Any download news probably won't matter much, though. The Beatles already have everything they need from the digital world.

Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Radio Radio has David McMillin and David Mead tonight, and they feature a reunited Blacklisted with the Bootz Orchestra tomorrow.

The Vollrath hosts The Seedy Seeds, Jascha, Shiny and the Spoon, and Christian Taylor and Homeschool tonight. Tomorrow, check out the indie rock explosion that is Sleeping in The Aviary, Amo Joy, Icarus Himself, and Jookabox.

And, as always, there's live acoustic music this weekend at Deano's Vino. Head on over to Maria's Pizza for live jazz Friday and Saturday. Enjoy!

The New IMN Podcast Is Up, and more on Record

So go listen at the site or on WFYI HD2 Thursdays at 4pm. You can also download it.

I'm probably going to end up doing the next episode by myself, as Steve will be out of town and it's hard to rustle somebody up on Labor Day. Next episode, prepare for a lot of music. Seriously, a lot of music.

I've been playing more with Propellerhead's Record at home, and the ease of use is growing on me. The fact that I can't use one audio source for input and another for output without creating an aggregate device in the OS is not. The problem is solved by plugging in a pair of headphones to the M-Audio box, but it's not necessarily the way I wanted to go about it. Such is life.
