Todd Rundgren at my Alma Mater

The lecture was advertised as "Music, Technology and Risk-Taking," and I guess I kind of wanted to take out the first comma and hear more about the technical side of music production from a trend-setter. It turned more into a retrospective of Rundgren's life with some techie talk sprinkled in - not what I was expecting, but still entertaining. The biggest thing I took from the talk was that when asked his advice on making a living in the music business, this famed record producer, engineer and technological innovator replied "Play live!" without hesitation. It was also interesting to contrast his take on the neutrality of music recording technology vs. his disdain for cellphones, Twitter and blogging (brought up while I was tweeting, ironically enough) as technologies that engender too much talking and not enough listening.

I didn't get the chance to stay on campus long, but it was nice to get some dinner at Marvin's and listen to the metal show on WGRE.

Speaking of radio, the new IMN podcast is online. Listen at the site or on WFYI.
