Any time a theremin makes a morning show . . .

. . . is a good day for me.  It’s not often Clara Rockmore is name-checked right after weather and traffic.  In this case, Big Car Gallery was featured on the local Fox affiliate in regards to the IMA’s art parade coming to Fountain Square this Saturday.  So we got a few minutes of proximity-induced tones and a somewhat-befuddled anchor.

Incidentally, I later saw the news team standing on a corner of the square (or quadrilateral, for those into precision), apparently deciding their next move.  Perhaps a trip to Peppy’s?

Ack.

I managed to hit the laptop book’s 50% deadline and get ready for Victor/Victoria rehearsals this weekend.

But it wasn’t pretty. I was cloistered like a monk, save for a brief breakfast excursion.

The show starts at the end of the week, and I want to spend a lot more time with the score. I can’t see the stage from the band’s position, so I really have to pay attention to any cues I get. Fun.

Fountain Square Music This Weekend

Radio Radio brings you raw rock power from The Blakes and 3/4ths of America Owns The Moon (even at 75% power, this is a great show). Like many others in the coming weeks, this show comes courtesy of My Old Kentucky Blog and the Monolith Festival.

Sam’s Saloon has Rumble Club, Whiskey Daredevils and Phantom Cruiser for a steady dose of rockabilly tonight. Hillbilly Deluxe and Smoke Ring are Saturday night, and Prize Country, Sirhan Sirhan, and Sad Horse arrive from Oregon on Sunday.

Deano’s Vino has the Michael Houston Group tonight and JUDE tomorrow night.

Big Car Gallery screens the local film “Maybe Tomorrow” tonight at 7pm with a rare acoustic performance by New York To Nowhere to sweeten the deal.

BOOTSY!

It is not entirely unreasonable that I’m fully geeked about this show coming to Indy on May 14th.

It’s Bootsy Collins.

The Bootsy Collins.

With (according to the press release) the original JBs rhythm section.

There’s a bunch of other folks on the tour as well, but this is all you really need to know.

Bootsy, Jabo Starks and Clyde Stubbefield, Catfish Collins, and (at the Indy stop) Fred Wesley.

DAMN.

I’m fully aware that these “tribute” shows tend to pick up and lose folks as they go, and nothing’s guaranteed.  As long as Bootsy shows up, though, everything else is gravy for me.

It’s BOOTSY!

Thoughts on Last Night’s Show

Posted in Bass Guitar, Local Music, Music Tech on April 18th, 2008 by Ryan
  • I’m increasingly concerned about how to clean a fez.  Last night’s show was a smoky and sweaty affair, and I have concern for the safety of both my bandmates and my browline.
  • It’s a good thing to carry a spare 1/8″ to 1/4″ cable when working with laptop sound.  My audio interface was acting up, and we had to run direct from the headphone jack.  Sigh.
  • The Vogue’s sound was great, but I kinda wanted a big SVT stack behind me because, you know, it was a big venue.
  • Mucca Pazza sounded like a Trans-Siberian Frank Zappa Memorial Marching Band, and I mean that as high praise indeed.
  • Hearing the Leisure Kings play “Widfire” en espanol was transcendent.
