Fountain Square? Really?
Posted in Fountain Square on February 11th, 2008 by RyanAs I was readying myself for the day this morning, my local Fox affiliate surprised me a bit by mentioning the continuing renovation of the Fountain Square area in a story teaser. I stuck around for a bit to see what they were on about and got an eyeful of a new condo development that’s really much closer to downtown than Fountain Square. And a happy story about the developers who were putting it together having grown up “just a few streets from here.”
And that was about it.
No mention of the new businesses, restaurants, galleries, or anything. Just 3BR, 2.5BA, little over $500K. Hardly representative of the area’s diversity or offerings at all.
This goes a little beyond “any news is good news.” It played more like an extended commercial for a development that, given the soft real estate market and overall economic conditions, shouldn’t be surprised that they’re only 2/3 full and don’t have all of their retail space sold yet. I wish them the best of luck and all, but there’s a real community here that shouldn’t be pimped out to sell some overpriced condos.
BTW, the brochure for this development claims that it belongs to Fletcher Place, not Fountain Square (which is correct), and seems much more inclined to direct people towards the downtown area than the “unique shopping experience” that is Fountain Square. So I’m curious as to who (the station or the developers) actually threw in the neighborhood spin.
