Jim – it was a passable cover, I thought. I was surprised they didn’t go more “far out” with it, and it was an odd selection for a concept album, though. As far as the overall trend, it looks like a huge gamble to me. Thom Yorke admitted in a recent Wired magazine article that they pulled their gambit off only because they went through the “mill” of the music business already, and he didn’t see it as a necessarily viable option for all musicians. I think it bodes better for independent digital releases in general, and maybe as staggered costs for different resolutions of digital files. The price structure would still have to be established, and that’s the killer.

I’ve heard a few Ryan Adams cuts, but they’re just not for me, I don’t think. It does sound like a lot of folks are pleased with his new-found sense of direction.

Amy – Interesting points. I’ll stick with my top one simply because I think Ndegeocello takes the sonic innovations of bands like Radiohead and infuses them with a heart and soul not before present. I get where you’re coming from with M.I.A., though.

I’ve heard parts of that Saul Williams album. I had to take advantage of the free download just to hear his cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday. I’m a U2 fanatic, ok? Shoot me! What’s your take on this trend in the music industry? Will other artists follow in this line for releasing albums? I’m sure Radiohead will make their money back with “In Rainbows,” but can other artists?

I haven’t heard much new music this year, but I definitely enjoyed Ryan Adam’s “Easy Tiger.” His best release since “Cold Roses.”
