Geek Stuff
I’ve been playing with the new version of Quicksilver a bit (the site is down at the moment, and it’s only useful to Apple users in any case - have I eliminated everybody yet?). It’s supposed to improve the speed and productivity of your Mac by using keyboard shortcuts and triggers to speed up launching programs and automating tasks. I haven’t gotten fully into it yet, but it seems handy. I’m having a hard time getting used to making it run, though - I don’t like a lot of actions happening automatically at startup, and I’m already geared towards using the native OS functions. Lifehacker seems to have dedicated an entire server towards articles on this program, though, so somebody likes it.

The new site looks a lot better!
We just got Leopard for the lab - but I can’t bring myself to install it. This past week has been upgrade heavy… and every time I upgrade something, it breaks something else!

Thanks! We’re hoping the Wordpress installation cures some uploading woes and still looks fabulous.
It’s a treacherous road, these upgrades. There’s got to be a reason compelling enough for me to mess with something that’s already working.

I’ve been using Quicksilver for a couple years now. I love it. In fact, whenever I’m using a Mac that doesn’t have it installed, I almost feel lost. Once you get used to hitting ctrl-space and typing a letter or 2 to find something to launch, it’s like magic. Spotlight has been dramatically improved in Leopard, so it’s also good for similar App-launching goodness. BUT, Quicksilver does so much more. BTW - the Quicksilver site is back up, and they’ve updated the software to be Leopard-friendly.

Have you gotten in to mapping out specific actions with Quicksilver, using the third window? It starts to get a little clunky for me then, but I’m wondering if that’s just my getting used to it. I’ve also mapped out some shortcuts in it for iTunes, which has been nifty.

I primarily use QS for app / document launching, because I really haven’t had the chance to sink my teeth into the real meat of QS’s feature set.
